Kent Cottage

This Grade II listed cottage underwent an extensive restoration project focused on preserving its historic character and ensuring its long-term stability.

This Grade II listed cottage underwent an extensive restoration project focused on preserving its historic character and ensuring its long-term stability.

The works included localised repairs and refacing of the original timber frame, careful repairs to the stone substrate where needed, and the application of a breathable lime render. Inappropriate repairs carried out in the 1990s had accelerated decay, making these new interventions essential to halt further deterioration.

Softwood windows were removed and replaced with more durable hardwood units which was also vital in keeping with the building's heritage. Adopting a conservation-led approach, the timber frame repairs followed the principle of maximum retention and minimum intervention, aiming to preserve as much original fabric as possible while only repairing or replacing where necessary.
