A bespoke external oak staircase, designed and built by hand to give first-floor access to a garden outbuilding.
This project was a bespoke external oak staircase, designed and built to give access to the first floor of a garden outbuilding.
Crafted entirely from oak, the staircase was made to suit the building and its setting, with solid treads and sturdy newel posts that will weather naturally over time. Traditional jointing methods were used throughout, so the structure is as durable as it is good-looking.
Set against the dark weatherboard of the building, the oak makes a handsome feature in the garden, and will only improve as it silvers with age.
It is a good example of how a single, well-made piece of oak work can change how a building is used and enjoyed.
