A sensitive renovation of a period cottage, including a bespoke oak staircase and a light-filled loft conversion crafted in solid oak.
This project was a careful renovation of a period cottage, updating it for comfortable modern living while respecting the character that makes it special.
At the heart of the work is a bespoke oak staircase, designed and built by hand to rise through the cottage. Turned oak spindles and solid treads give it a timeless feel, and it has quickly become a centrepiece of the home.
Above, we opened up the roof space into a bright loft room, framed in oak and lit by rooflights set into the slope, complete with an entirely new en-suite. The exposed oak frame ties the new space to the rest of the cottage, while the added light makes it a genuinely usable room.
Elsewhere, a bathroom refurbishment was carried out and a new joinery-made oak porch with leadlight windows was added. New oak joinery throughout, including windows and doors, was fitted to suit the building, completing a renovation that feels both fresh and entirely in keeping.
